We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to join our team in San Francisco. Our offices in San Francisco, Tokyo, and Chișinău develop the product, design, engineering, marketing and content for Crunchyroll and VRV -- we are media and technology experts, and we lead with our digital-first DNA to create experiences for our passionate communities.

You are a full-stack engineer and a professional with strong technical design principles, not a hacker. You understand the requirements and think before you code, adhere to principles of abstraction and best practices in API design, and are as cognizant of the limitations in what you build as you are of your capabilities. You are familiar with many technologies and can confidently pick the right tool for the job at hand.

If you've answered yes to any of these questions, please read on. We are looking for highly motivated and talented technical individuals to join our team as a Staff Secure Applications Engineer. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, has worked in software development, has experience owning development of application components, and is capable of assisting in defining the implementation details for projects within his or her realm. This candidate should also be aware of what a good microservice looks like and how it fits into the world of cloud architecture. This individual will be working with secure services, so an interest in application security is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with other software engineers on developing application components
  • Recommend changes in implementation based on domain knowledge
  • Contribute considerations from domain knowledge in technical project planning
  • Own component documentation so to instruct future developers and others in the company on how your component works
  • Demonstrate functionality to product managers
  • Implement automated white box tests that validate code
  • Review the work of other developers in the team
  • Uphold secure development practices in your work and that of others to catch potential vulnerabilities before they become threats
  • Annually review top software application vulnerabilities and their prevention

Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years as a software development engineer
  • Experience with LAMP environments
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and microservice development
  • 2+ years of experience with secure development practices
  • Experience with scrum process
  • Experience with issue tracking software
  • Sensitivity toward handling and exposure of sensitive data

Pluses:

  • You have worked with PCI-compliant systems
  • You’ve profiled microservice interactions and performance with New Relic or similar tools
  • You know the OWASP Top 10
  • You have CISSP certification or a related security certification
  • You have developed projects in Golang
  • You know which game the quote “Capitalism, ho!” comes from
