Director of Production

Audience Development Team | San Francisco

Ellation is looking for a Director of Production to join a passionate and creative team and to lead original content creation for the Crunchyroll and VRV brands. We’re interested in a production leader with prior success in managing a team, collaborating in a dynamic environment, and engaging millions of online fans.

Candidates should have demonstrable success in leading strategic direction for content channels as well in producing quality, engaging video for online audiences. The role will be overseeing the production process, managing all talent and resources, and performance on YouTube and social media. This position requires someone with managerial experience to develop employees, manage budgets and streamline/optimize the production pipeline.

We are looking for a strong leader and culture fit - someone who is self-motivated with high expectations, eager to better understand our fans, and excited by shaping a big opportunity for the business. You will be tasked with creating daily original content and utilizing assets from Crunchyroll and VRV’s licensed content which will be served to our millions of viewers and subscribers.

Responsibilities:

  • Refine our weekly content strategy to better engage fans, broaden brand awareness, and position ahead of industry trends
  • Develop production plans, individual duties, and output expectations
  • Manage a team of 8 employees including producers, editors and hosts
  • Work closely to develop staff/talent and provide developmental feedback and support
  • Oversee booking of guests and collaborations as available
  • Collaborate with social leads to best utilize video assets across all platforms
  • Grow Crunchyroll’s current channels with updated and improved content, launch a new YouTube channel dedicated to VRV
  • Oversee budget
  • Lead the team in working towards key metrics and using data to drive decisions
  • Oversee equipment and buildout of studios
  • Train team in best practices in writing, researching, and publishing online video
  • Analysis and reporting of team success (ROI, opportunities, engagement, etc.)
  • Evaluate opportunities for special projects, ways to support business initiatives, and partnerships with sales on sponsored video
  • Manage travel for event coverage or on location shoots
  • Manage team to edit and publish to deadlines

Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience in online video production, with 3-4 years leading a team
  • Expertise in shooting, producing, and editing for the internet
  • Familiarity with livestreaming, trailers, video advertising, and various shoot types
  • Ability to manage multiple productions simultaneously while focusing on future goals
  • Clear and direct communication with a strong sense of teamwork
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills to ensure a tight production flow
  • Expert knowledge of social video platforms and online media trends
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Respect for and interest in our niche content types (anime, animation, comedy, horror, fantasy, etc). Experience in fandom communities preferred!
